National Nutrition Month® 2013
“Eat Right, Your Way, Every Day”

March is here and the tides of spring are slowly rolling in! As we segue into somewhat warmer weather, The Food Evolution is proud to celebrate National Nutrition Month!
National Nutrition Month is an annual nutrition education and information campaign sponsored by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics designed to encourage personalized healthy eating styles while highlighting the importance of making informed choices and developing sound eating habits.

This is a great time to focus on your own personal lifestyle and just how you can incorporate a healthier diet into it! With respect to this year’s National Nutrition Month theme, “Eat Right, Your Way, Every Day,” we at The Food Evolution believe that it is okay to eat when you want and what you want, but it’s best to have healthy options and make informed decisions.

You know you should be eating right, so what’s stopping you? We can help guide you to a path of vibrant health with our personal nutrition tips below, leading you in the right direction!

Eat When You’re Hungry!

good-foodsIt’s as simple as that! It’s okay to eat when you want, it’s just important to make smart choices! Stop stressing about the guidelines and rules. The answer to what’s best for you is what makes you feel good! Trust us when we say, incorporating nutritious whole foods will make you feel great! It’s all about finding the balance between what’s good for you and what you like.

Giving your body what it needs will generate an amazing response. You’re going to feel energized, satisfied and vibrant. Try slowly adding more whole foods like greens, legumes, beans and whole grains into your diet you’ll see what we mean!

In the mean time, instead of reaching for those jelly beans, grab a handful of almonds or cranberries to satisfy that small twinge of hunger. When you hear that low stomach rumble mid day, have something fibrous and high in protein handy like some fresh veggies or a handful of raw, unsalted nuts. They’re satisfying and you won’t feel guilty having a couple extra of this nutrient dense treat.

Nature’s Fast Food

collard-wrapsOur eating patterns are influenced collard wrapsby many factors such as culture, health issues, personal tastes and most especially — our lifestyle. Many of us run busy day-to-day schedules and feel as though we don’t have the time to fit in a healthy meal or nutritious snack. It may seem simple to stop at the drive through window on your way to or from work, but it’s just as easy to grab something more health supportive too!

The truth is fruits and vegetables are a fast food! Putting together a fruit salad or a packing up some sliced vegetables can be quick, easy and beneficial to your health. Having a quick grab-and-go snack readily available is best when it’s something filling and nutritious that will still fit into your busy on-the-go schedule. Peel a couple of carrots or break up some celery and toss them in a re-sealable bag to carry with you on your way to work, activities or anywhere! It’s just as easy to bring an apple along and avoid buying that sugary candy bar on the next pit stop. Take the challenge; you won’t be disappointed with how good you’re going to feel!

Shape Up Your Plate!

plate-3It’s time to take a look at your plate. The average serving suggestion and the most sustainable plate includes at least half of your plate to be greens. How does your plate look?

Many studies show that a plant based diet is the healthier diet; they help you live longer, stay slimmer and cut your risk for disease. Plants are also a nutrient dense way to fill up your plate without feeling guilty. Try lowering your meat portions to 1/4 of the plate or, if you’re feeling good, skip the extra slab of meat and instead try reaching for more leafy greens, beans, legumes and/or whole grains to fill the void.

Including more vegetarian meals into your weekly menu doesn’t have to be a permanent lifestyle choice, but you will benefit by slowly adding more of these nourishing whole foods onto your plate.

The question is what foods and how? Many are unaware of how many different greens, beans and grains there are and how many different ways you can prepare them while making them taste great too! Well, we’ve got the answers with our Vegetarian Menu Plans Made Easy. We provide you the option to choose from three subscriptions that best fit your lifestyle and budget. We offer easy to follow recipes, the option to include community support and the top tier offers visual support with cooking videos in which we cook together – from our kitchen to yours! Don’t miss the chance to finally put your health and the health of your family at the top of your priority list. You can “eat right, your way, everyday” and we are here to help!
