How Choosing the Right Foods Can Help Heal the World

Here at The Food Evolution we strive to educate individuals and families about what it means to eat healthy while enjoying the benefits of well-prepared, high-quality meals. We are all about contributing to the evolutionary progression of food on planet Earth and its preparation. As we move away from a convenience and capitalist-oriented food system towards a new, eco-conscious means of nourishing our bodies, we must look at the best ways to further this goal. The peaceful process of this change includes examining how we get our food out of the ground (or the dairy or the ranch) and onto our plates.

Gimme the real, “REAL THING”

When we opt for produce that comes from local farms, we are telling big agribusiness: “I don’t want your pesticide and hormone-ridden food to land on my dinner table.” When we take the time to pack a healthful lunch for ourselves and our families, we are saying to the fast-food industry:” I want my children eating organic and green, not processed and greasy”.

When you spend the extra few dollars to buy free-range poultry that hasn’t been plied with hormones and antibiotics, you are telling your grocers: “Keep the good stuff coming.” By the way, the good stuff tastes really real. And, to get more bang for your buck, you can learn new ways to use poultry, meat and fish as an ingredient in appetizing and colorful dishes that will be visually appealing and palate pleasing.

Using Your Dollars to Voice Your Choice

The more of us that “vote” using our food dollars for organic vs. GMO, free-range vs. caged and hormone injected, local produce vs. air-shipped fruits and veggies, the sooner we will see this change.

The sooner, too, will the law of supply and demand enforce the next phase of food evolution. Even though organic produce is more expensive than non-organic, when you spend your grocery budget at the farmers market or in the organic section at the store, you help create a higher demand for natural, unadulterated food and the supply must increase to meet that demand. This means sooner or later, big agribusiness will go the way of the dinosaur and the food industry will fall into line with consumer demand for high quality, locally grown, free-range, grass fed nourishment—intended for healthy human consumption.

The food you choose to buy really counts as your political voice—and if you let your voice be heard, loud and clear, you can help heal our food system –and our world… one dollar at a time.
