Food Evolution and Food for Life

This month we are celebrating our affiliation with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) and their renowned Food for Life program. The Food Evolution is proud to announce that we recently became certified as Food for Life Education Alliance Program partners (EAP).

The Link between Nutrition and Disease

The Food for life program had its beginnings in 2001 and has grown over the years to international status. The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine has been an advocate for educating people and institutions about the benefits of a plant-based diet in the prevention of disease. This highly esteemed program has sponsored numerous studies and has accumulated an abundance of documented evidence showing that a plant-based diet can reverse diabetes, slow the growth of certain cancers, and improve or reverse many serious health conditions.

The National Cancer Institute states that nearly a third of annual cancer deaths in the United States are related to the food that people eat. Former U.S. Surgeon General Everett Koop stated that “70%of all Americans die from diseases related directly to their eating habits.”“70% of all Americans die from diseases related directly to their eating habits.” “70% of all Americans die from diseases related directly to their eating habits.” “70% of all Americans die from diseases related directly to their eating habits.” It’s clear that we need a change in the way we eat.

Changing the Standard American Diet

The Standard American Diet (SAD) is sadly lacking in vital nutrients like disease-fighting micronutrients found in plants, and sadly high in substances like saturated fats and processed non-foods that can make our bodies sick. PCRM’s Educational Alliance Program (EAP) was instituted to allow universities and schools, wellness and fitness centers, medical centers, culinary schools, and faith groups to participate in the fight against preventable disease in their communities through teaching good nutrition and helping people embrace healthier lifestyles.

We are excited to be part of changing the Standard American Diet for the better through our affiliation with the Food for Life program. By becoming an Educational Alliance Partner, we are aligning The Food Evolution Cooking and Nutrition Center with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and standing together with them in the quest to transform the way people eat.

Fabulous Food, Fantastic Health

Not only do our class participants learn to prepare fabulous, gourmet food, but they also learn about the health benefits of specific foods in sustaining optimum health and preventing disease. We are glad that we are able to address the dietary needs of those that have special health concerns, like heart disease, diabetes, overweight, and cancer—all while expanding their culinary expertise.

PCRM’s emphasis on disease prevention through nutrition falls into line with our mission at the Food Evolution by showing people how to choose the best foods for life. The Food Evolution’s cooking classes demonstrate how to artfully combine these nutrient-dense foods into delicious, healthy, and beautiful meals. Our status as certified Education Alliance Program partners with the Food for Life program allows us to connect with people where they are and help them orient themselves to a new, healthier way of eating.

We want to show people that they don’t need to have a degree in nutrition to know how to optimally nourish themselves and their families. The Food Evolution is all about showing people how easy it is to become an accomplished chef and healthy lifestyle advocates. Teaching culinary skills and introducing people to wonderful new foods helps transform the Standard American Diet. And through partnering with organizations like PCRM, we are helping to advance the Evolution of Food on our precious, magnificent planet.
